Attorney Nancy Lee Nelson is a Partner at Weber & Nelson Law Office, PLLC, where she specializes in health law issues. Ms. Nelson’s practice includes planning and legal organization of clinics and other health-related entities; drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts; providing legal guidance and advice related to regulatory matters; and preparing bylaws, conflict of interest documents, and policies and procedures. In addition, she represents individual healthcare professionals in licensure defense, employment issues, and other health law matters.
Prior to Weber & Nelson Law Office, Ms. Nelson was a health lawyer at Bassford, Heckt, Truesdell & Briggs, P.A., and then UnitedHealthCare’s Legal Department. At UnitedHealthCare, Ms. Nelson worked with HMOs, Pharmacy, United Behavioral Health, and Medical Services. Previous to her legal career, she was a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and co-director—with a University of Minnesota cardiologist—of the Cardiology Program at St. Paul Children’s Hospital.
Ms. Nelson has taught a variety of classes and seminars for nurses and lawyers. For example, she developed and taught a graduate-level health law and ethics course for Chapman University in California; she was co-adjunct faculty for a Law and Ethics course in the MBA hospital administrator program at the College of St. Thomas; she taught legal writing as adjunct faculty at William Mitchell College of Law; she taught law and ethics in the foundations course for the Faith Community Nurse Network of the Twin Cities; and she developed and taught an educational program for paralegals at UnitedHealthCare.
Ms. Nelson’s education and credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing with Departmental Distinction from St. Olaf College; the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Minnesota; Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Pediatrics; a Master’s in Public Health with honors from the University of Minnesota; and a Juris Doctor, Cum Laude—along with the Student Award of Merit—from William Mitchell College of Law. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, and American Nurses Association, and she is a Fellow of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
